In the first four months of 2025, Vietnam imported $5.66 billion worth of goods from the United States—a 25.78% year-on-year increase. In April alone, imports surged by 40.2%, underscoring Vietnam’s growing demand for high-value U.S. goods such as technology equipment, energy infrastructure, agricultural products, semiconductors, and aircraft.

Soybean imports from the U.S. soared by 47% in volume and 19% in value, with average prices dropping by 19%. This supports Vietnam’s livestock and food-processing industries and strengthens national food security.

Major Vietnamese corporations—including EVN, PVN, Vietnam Airlines, and Viettel—are boosting procurement of U.S.-made turbines, GPU chips, aircraft, and energy transmission systems, with multi-billion-dollar deals already in place. Recent bilateral economic agreements between enterprises from both nations are valued at over $90 billion.

Vietnam’s government, with strong commitments from Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, has expressed readiness to negotiate tariffs in favor of balanced and sustainable trade. These efforts, if matched with tariff reductions—especially for U.S. agricultural and hi-tech exports—could accelerate trade volumes and help reshape a mutually beneficial supply chain.
