Hateco Port in Hai Phong Welcomes a Nearly 214,000 DWT Container Vessel

On June 23, 2026, Hateco Hai Phong International Container Terminal (HHIT) proudly welcomed the Triple-E vessel MATZ MAERSK, with a deadweight of nearly 214,000 DWT, marking the largest container ship ever to call at Hai Phong Port and the entire northern port region of Vietnam.

 

On June 23, at Hateco Hai Phong International Container Terminal (HHIT), Hateco Group officially received the container vessel MATZ MAERSK, operated by Maersk, at Berths No. 5 and 6 of Lach Huyen Port.

With a deadweight of 213,970.8 DWT, a length of 399.2 meters, and a carrying capacity of approximately 18,270 TEUs, MATZ MAERSK belongs to the Triple-E class, one of the world’s largest container vessel classes currently in operation. It is also among the largest container ships ever permitted to operate at Vietnamese seaports.

Just two months earlier, on April 22, Hai Phong successfully welcomed another mega vessel, COSCO SHIPPING AQUARIUS, measuring 400 meters in length and 197,087 DWT, operating on the Asia-Europe trade lane and also ranking among the world’s largest container ships.

The arrival of these mega vessels not only marks an important milestone for Hai Phong Port but also reflects the rapid development of Vietnam’s maritime industry. According to the Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) 2025, published by the World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence, the Hai Phong port cluster ranked 13th among the world’s top 20 best-performing container ports, further strengthening the position of Vietnam’s seaport system within the global supply chain and maritime transport network.
