A major fire broke out at a container yard in Yau Ma Tei, Hong Kong on October 14, causing significant damage to more than 10 containers. The fire, believed to have started from plastic materials, took 14 hours to extinguish. Firefighters faced challenges due to the nature of the materials involved and the limited space in the container yard. They used drones to assess the situation, deployed multiple street wells to provide water, and even mobilized firefighting vessels to pump seawater directly onto the fire. Heavy firefighting equipment was needed to move the burning containers and extinguish any remaining sparks.

The fire eventually spread to a nearby barge, increasing the scale of the incident. Authorities raised the fire alert level to level 3, indicating a major emergency, and deployed additional resources to extinguish the blaze.

Despite the significant damage, no injuries were reported. The fire department urged residents living nearby to take precautions by closing doors and windows due to smoke and flames.

The incident is a reminder of the potential dangers associated with container storage and the importance of fire safety measures in such facilities.
