Hai Phong continues to strengthen its position as a key logistics and import-export gateway in Northern Vietnam, with cargo throughput maintaining strong growth in 2026.
According to the latest update, during the first nine months of 2026, cargo throughput in the Hai Phong port area reached approximately 90 million tons, up 6.7% year-on-year, achieving around 74% of the annual target.

Of this total, approximately 74.9 million tons were handled by sea, while 15.1 million tons were transported via inland waterways, representing a significant 20% increase compared with the same period last year.
The port area also recorded 32,311 vessel calls during the first nine months, an increase of nearly 9.9% year-on-year, reflecting the continued expansion of maritime and logistics activities in Hai Phong.
🎯 122 Million Tons Target for 2026
Hai Phong has set a target of 122 million tons of cargo throughput for the full year 2026, together with approximately 9.1 million TEUs and 42,500 vessel calls.
With around 90 million tons already handled after nine months, approximately 32 million tons will need to be processed during the fourth quarter to achieve the annual target.
The final months of the year are traditionally a busy period for import and export activities as businesses increase production, replenish inventories and complete year-end orders. This is expected to support continued demand for ocean freight, trucking, warehousing and logistics services.
🌏 Lach Huyen – A Key Driver of Hai Phong’s Growth
The development of Lach Huyen Deep-Water Port is playing an increasingly important role in strengthening Hai Phong’s international connectivity.
The port system currently operates around 30 international shipping services, connecting Hai Phong with major markets across Asia, the Americas and Australia.
With expanding international services, larger vessel capacity and improving port infrastructure, Hai Phong is becoming an increasingly important link in the regional supply chain and a strategic gateway for Northern Vietnam’s import-export activities.
📦 What This Means for Importers and Exporters
Growing cargo volumes also create higher demand for vessel space, reliable schedules, trucking capacity and efficient port connectivity.
During the year-end peak season, importers and exporters are advised to plan shipments in advance and closely monitor vessel schedules, CY cut-off times, transit times and space availability to minimize the risk of delays or booking shortages.
