Bunny > News > Hai Phong Seaport: A New Economic Growth Pole

Hai Phong City is emerging as a strategic growth pole, a leading international seaport hub for industry, trade, and logistics in Northern Vietnam. The city now ranks as the third-largest economy in the country.

According to the 2025 Socio-Economic Development Plan report presented at the City People’s Council meeting at the end of July 2025, revenue from transportation, warehousing, and transport support services made a significant contribution, reaching over VND 84,575 billion, up 14.4% year-on-year.

The city has proactively attracted investment, built, and implemented modern, synchronized logistics centers, focusing on large-scale logistics hubs such as: Dinh Vu – Cat Hai, Nam Dinh Vu, VSIP, the Logistics Center Development Project, Ninh Giang inland waterway port; logistics, warehouse, and oil terminal service center (Kinh Mon); and the Logistics Center at Cao Xa Station, Cam Giang. These areas not only serve as storage and transshipment hubs but also act as vital links in the global supply chain, directly connecting with industrial parks, seaports, and strategic transportation routes.

Regarding infrastructure for seaport and logistics service development: In the first six months of the year, berths No. 3, 4, 5, and 6 were completed and put into operation; construction continues on berths No. 7 and 8, and investment is being sought for the remaining berths at Lach Huyen Port. The Prime Minister has approved the investment policy for berths No. 9, 10, 11, and 12 at Lach Huyen. Studies are being carried out to invest in the startup berth at Nam Do Son Port and berths in the Van Uc River area.

The Southern Coastal Economic Zone, covering about 20,000 hectares, will be planned in connection with Nam Do Son Port and Tien Lang Airport, creating a sustainable development space. This is an important step for Hai Phong to become a multi-sectoral marine economic hub, ready to welcome major waves of investment. The zone will develop along the path of industrialization and modernization, focusing on high-tech industries and logistics services.

With more than 50 industrial zones currently in place, Hai Phong is gradually forming a diverse industrial network, ranging from traditional sectors to high-tech industries, generating tens of thousands of new jobs each year. The combination of economic zones and industrial zones will be a key driver for Hai Phong’s breakthrough development, solidifying its position in the national economy.
