LOS ANGELES – August 2025 – The Port of Los Angeles has achieved its busiest month ever, moving more than 1 million TEUs in July 2025 for the first time in its 117-year history. The record comes as retailers and manufacturers accelerated imports to get ahead of potential tariff increases later this year.
The port processed 1,019,837 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in July, an 8.5% jump compared with the same month in 2024.
“This July, our docks were packed with ships, yet cargo kept moving without delay thanks to the dedication of longshore workers, terminal operators, rail partners, truck drivers, and our entire supply chain community,” said Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka.
Dr. Zachary Rogers, Assistant Professor of Supply Chain Management at Colorado State University and lead author of the Logistics Managers’ Index, joined Seroka at the port’s monthly media briefing to discuss the broader impacts of tariffs on transportation, warehousing, and inventory levels.

From January through July 2025, the Port of Los Angeles processed a total of 5,975,649 TEUs, representing a 5% increase over the same period last year.
